Fly fishing in the Gunnison Gorge of the Black Canyon is world renowned among fly fishing enthusiasts. Known for its large wild rainbow trout and brown trout, it's revered as one of the most productive fisheries in the United States, offering world-class fly fishing.

Besides world class fishing, the Gunnison Gorge is a whitewater adventure filled with exciting rapids, while surrounded by stunning Precambrian rock formations – some of the oldest exposed rock formation on Earth.

The Gunnison Gorge is also abundant with native Colorado wildlife, such as bighorn sheep, river otters, mule deer, eagles and wild chukar.

Your adventure will begin at Pleasure Park at 6:00 AM with a 4-wheel drive trip to the trailhead of Chukar Trail. A moderate hike down into the canyon brings you to the Chukar Beach. We use horses to pack all the river equipment down into the canyon the day before your trip.

Once at Chukar Beach, you will gear up in the raft for your 14 mile float fishing trip for the day. Don't forget to look up and enjoy the spectacular views!

Advanced Reservations Required:

Due to the nature of these trips, we require an advanced reservation and a deposit, to confirm all fishing trips in the Gunnison Gorge.

Per BLM regulations, Gunnison River Expeditions is allowed a maximum of 12 people per day on a single launch dates. The limitation includes clients and guides combined. This is one the most regulated rivers when it comes party size. One-day fishing trips are excluded in June, due to popularity of the overnight trips.
